The mentor program at PG&E has far exceeded my expectations. Joining the company in 2008, I was interested in learning more about the company and the different groups within my organization. Through the mentoring program I was able to find two mentors that not only taught me more about living and leading PG&E’s values, but also gave me visibility in the organization by placing me on a project team for a key strategic initiative. Since joining the mentoring program, I have continued to learn and develop my leadership skills by participating in mentor skill workshops and taking on a Mentor Lead role. I have also made professional connections throughout the company and have learned new skills that I will take with me as I progress in my career. When I joined the Mentor Program a few months back I never imagined the possibilities it would bring. Not only has the program helped me in my current position, but it has created a way for me to develop a career.The Mentor Website is filled with valuable information and has allowed me both the opportunity to network and connect. The Monthly Mentor Skills meetings have also offered me a wide range of knowledge not only beneficial for use at work but also for use in my personal life. In addition to the website and Monthly trainings, the Mentor Lead Program has offered me the opportunity to take what I have gained and share it through presentation in the field. The Mentoring Program has contributed to my professional development by providing me with leadership and presentation skills as a member of the Mentor Lead Program. The Mentor Lead program was established to extend the monthly career training out to the service territories beyond the General Office.
The Mentoring Program monthly trainings provide an experiential forum for focusing on my career. Monthly topics such as career strategy, goal setting, time management, teams and diversity are all relevant to furthering my career development and performance.
I have more confidence in my ability to be promoted as a result of the skills I’ve learned, the networking opportunities that the trainings provide, and the visibility I have as a Mentor Lead.
I originally called into the monthly trainings but the energy and excitement I heard over the phone made me realize that I wanted to be there in person. And, if I miss a training, all training notes are available on the Mentor Program website.

Upon learning about the PG&E EA Mentoring Program, I immediately registered and became a participant by taking a day off from work and driving 87 miles to my first monthly training session. I am now connected to several representatives from Governmental Relations and have even met a Senior Diversity consultant within our company. As a result of the mentoring program my passion and hunger for personal growth and development has become unstoppable. I am poised to meet and exceed all the goals I have set for myself because of the many benefits the program offers. I am convinced that The PG&E EA Mentoring Program is an inspiring, motivating, and energizing vehicle that assists and propels participants to accomplish personal and professional goals. Ultimately, the mentoring program is an effective component in our quest to become The Leading Utility in America .
